  • Working with the Western Climate Initiative, NWF helped secure a commitment from seven states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15 percent by the year 2020. The program adopted by these states identifies protecting natural resources as a key area that states should fund in implementing the program.
  • Forged an active partnership with the Campus Climate Challenge coalition, and encouraged students to engage in solving global warming through efforts at the PowerShift Conference and the national campus PowerVote pledge drive. National Wildlife Federation reached 1,800 schools and 1 million students through Focus the Nation, a national teach-in event on global warming.
  • Helped to pass the Higher Education Sustainability Act which will provide $50 million in annual funding to institutions of learning to educate students on new ways to address climate change.
  • Launched a new K-12 educational Website called Climate Classroom which features NWF’s curriculum based on the film An Inconvenient Truth. The site received the award for best non-profit website in America from the national Web Marketing Association.
  • Partnered with the National Congress of American Indians to gain their support of the Climate Security Act. The NCAI represents over 500 sovereign tribes and passed a resolution on the validity of climate change, humanity’s role, and the urgent need for climate legislation that includes natural resource funding.
