Campus Ecology Coordinator

Courtney supports the Campus Ecology Fellowship program, coordinates the Internship program, is involved in special media projects and tracks and engages NWF alumni. Courtney recently graduated from Warren Wilson College in Asheville North Carolina with a BA in Political Science and an even deeper appreciation for the beautiful Swannanoa Valley and the power of community. While at Warren Wilson, Courtney served for four years on the Environmental Leadership Center (ELC) work crew in the role of Publications Assistant. Based largely on her work at the ELC Courtney received the Upper French Broad River Defense Association Outstanding Achievement Award as well as the Roosevelt-Ashe Society Award for Outstanding Youth in Conservation. In her free time, Courtney enjoys long hikes and live music.

Praween supports faculty, staff, administrators and students to advance carbon pollution solutions in the higher education sector in Texas. As the Texas Field Coordinator Praween provides technical support for implementing sustainability efforts on campus in addition to providing conference and summit planning, trainings and workshops on a variety of sustainability topics and mentoring for student leadership. As Field Coordinator in Texas Praween also manages the Texas Regional Alliance for Campus Sustainability and the ReEnergize Texas student network. In addition to being part of the Campus Ecology team Praween is a representative for NWF with the Energy Action Coalition (EAC), currently on the Steering Committee for EAC and previously on the Council and Steering Committees for the 2007 and 2009 Power Shift national conferences. Before joining NWF, Praween led sustainability efforts at Pomona College in Claremont, California. As a student at Pomona he co-founded and coordinated the Pomona Campus Climate Challenge group (now PEAR) and served on the President's Advisory Committee on Sustainability. He co-wrote the first-ever greenhouse gas emission inventory and preliminary climate action plan for the college and also planned and directed Pomona's first comprehensive dorm energy conservation challenge, which successfully led to the college purchasing its first renewable energy in 2007. Praween graduated in 2007 with a B.A. in Economics from Pomona.

Eriqah works to strengthen local and regional networks of campuses committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by organizing networking opportunities and educational events. A proud native of Newark, NJ, Eriqah is a 2010 departmental honors graduate of Spelman College with a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Women’s Studies. While in school, she was an active member and on the executive board of several organizations including the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Spelman chapter. However it was her introduction to Students Endeavoring for Enlightened Environmental Decisions (SEeED), a Morehouse College chartered organization that helped her discover her passion for environmental sustainability and environmental justice. She went on to serve as Internal Director of that organization in her senior year and helped organize two of the largest African American student delegations to PowerShift, once in 2009 and again in 2011. Outside of school, Eriqah has worked extensively with the Let’s Retrofit A Million Project (formerly Let’s Raise A Million), was the Georgia Coal Diversity Organizer intern for the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE), and is currently an Advisory Board Ambassador and Campus Club Fellow for Outdoor Nation. She is very excited about her position at NWF and hopes, among her other duties, to provide resources to bring HBCUs, like her beloved Spelman, into this emerging “green” movement. When she does find free time, Eriqah enjoys bonfires with friends, watching movies, mentoring high school students, singing, dancing, and traveling. Her favorite quote is, “I found God in myself and I loved Her fiercely” by Ntozake Shange because we can all find the greatness in ourselves, embrace it and therefore go out and do great things.

Campus Ecology Coordinator

Jen organizes and engages members in Chill Out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming, Campus Ecology's nationwide competition for solutions to global warming. She also works with our Campus Fellows and NWF's interns. Before coming to NWF, Jen worked for Wildlife Encounters in New Hampshire and Leesburg Animal Park in Virginia, educating children (and their parents and teachers) about wildlife and the environment in a hands-on setting. During college, Jen studied abroad in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador for a semester. The students lived in grass huts and did research on frogs and spectacled bears. Jen was lucky enough to be present as they released a spectacled bear into the wild and took part in the tracking of it after its release. Jen graduated in 2005 with a B.S. in Wildlife Management from the University of New Hampshire.

Juliana is the Campus Field Manager for National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology program. Based out of the Great Lakes Regional Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Juli works throughout the Midwest region facilitating the exchange of campus sustainability resources, best practices and lessons learned across higher education institutions. Juli coordinates regional sustainability networks, where campuses can come together and discuss issues and solutions to campus sustainability, such as efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, develop climate/sustainability plans, integrate sustainability throughout the curriculum and connect students, staff and faculty in the cultivation of campus-wide sustainability efforts. Juli also leads the Greenforce Initiative in Michigan and Illinois - helping to create green career pathway programs at community colleges. Before coming to NWF, Juli spent many years abroad in Jamaica, working with the US Peace Corps in the environmental and sustainable agriculture sector. Juli has a Masters degree in Sustainable Community Development and Social Action Training and a BA in Environmental Studies. When Juli is not working on sustainability issues, she enjoys new adventures, traveling to far off lands and relaxing outdoors.

Kristy manages campus team memberships, resources such as web conferences and climate solutions fellowships, internships, key partnerships, and has co-authored Higher Education in a Warming World – The Business Case for Climate Leadership on Campus. Before joining NWF, Kristy worked at the Foundation for Environmental Security and Sustainability as an office/research coordinator. Kristy also spent six years working for the Center for Field Studies at George Mason University (GMU). One of her largest projects at GMU was managing The Bahamas Environmental Research Center on Andros Island. Kristy has led several field studies to The Bahamas and Costa Rica. She graduated in 1996 with a B.A. in Anthropology and received her master's degree in 2000 in Environmental Studies.

For more than two decades, Ms. Keniry has worked to advance leadership for sustainability in U.S. higher education and beyond. She co-founded the National Wildlife Federation's Cool-It! Program in 1989 (re-named Campus Ecology in 1993). She and her team co-founded the Energy Action Coalition, comprised of more than 30 campus and youth organizations advocating for leadership to confront global warming, and organized the meetings that lead to the formation of the Higher Education Associations' Sustainability Consortium (HEASC).
Ms. Keniry has spearheaded several national educational initiatives, including the national Chill Out Competition on campus innovations to reduce global warming pollution, the nation's first and largest national report cards on higher education sustainability performance, a campus ecology fellowship program, and an array of publications and educational productions in diverse media, including dvds, webcasts and television. She wrote the landmark book Ecodemia: Campus Environmental Stewardship at the Turn of the 21st Century (1995) and co-authored Green Investment, Green Return: How Practical Conservation Projects Save Millions on America’s Campuses (1998), Higher Education in a Warming World: The Business Case for Climate Leadership on Campus (2008) and numerous other articles and publications. She recently directed the development of the Guide to Climate Action Planning: Pathways to a Low-Carbon Campus (2008) and Generation E: Students Leading for a Sustainable, Clean Energy Future (2009).
She earned undergraduate degrees in international relations and German from Agnes Scott College and a Master's degree in environmental science and policy from Johns Hopkins University.

Lisa leads the field team working with campuses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mobilizing support for federal climate action. She has been with NWF for more than six years, transitioning to Campus Ecology from the role as Regional Representative position where she worked with NWF's state affiliates in the Lower Mississippi area. Lisa has worked in the public service arena for going on 20 years. She co-founded and directed SCALE (Student Coalition for Action in Literacy Education), a national organization mobilizing student involvement in literacy efforts, for which she was awarded President Bush's Point of Light Award in 1990. She also served as a community organizer for six years for the Industrial Areas Foundation network in San Antonio and Houston. Lisa holds a degree in public policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Climate and Clean Energy Organizer/Michigan Student Sustainability Coalition

Liz is in the field in Michigan supporting the NWF and Campus Ecology program by organizing the Michigan Student Sustainability Coalition (MSSC). By building and activating Michigan’s statewide network of youth environmentalists, Liz hopes to connect and train college organizers and solidify the youth voice around environmental issues in Michigan. Her work includes outreach to various campuses across the state, creating and implementing leadership training programs, coordinating with partners organizations, and sustaining momentum for the environmental movement. Liz has a history of youth environmental organizing, and has worked for Repower America and Clean Water Action throughout her college career. In addition to being passionate about the environment, Liz also firmly believes in active citizenship, cultivated by 4 years of involvement with MSU’s Alternative Spring Break program. In her free time, Liz enjoys spending time on the coast of Lake Michigan near her home town, fantasizing about her dream garden, reading, and being with active minded and passionate people. Recently, Liz has graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in International Relations and is excited to be able to play a more active role in Michigan’s environmental movement.
