Take Action

When students take action in the community their service has lasting impacts socially and emotionally. Transformative experiences can ensue when meaningful action opportunities are embedded into the learning process.

Below are a list of resources that meaningfully engage students in taking action related to specific topics. Each of the resources below connect to one or more of our Pathways to Sustainability.

Take Action

Cool School Challenge
Challenge other classrooms in your school or another school in the district! The Cool School Challenge engages students and teachers in practical strategies to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions school-wide.

Endangered Species Day
Recognized in May of each year, students are encouraged to learn about the importance of protecting endangered species locally and globally and actions they can take to help them.

Food Revolution Day
Recognized in May of each year, Food Revolution days works to get kids excited about REAL FOOD. It’s a chance for the school community to come together within their homes, schools, and surrounding communities to cook and share their kitchen skills, food knowledge and resources to educate children about food, where it comes from and how it affects their bodies.

LEGO: Monarch Recovery Gardens
The monarch butterfly is an iconic species that needs our help. Its populations have declined by more than 90% in the past two decades. Provide students with the knowledge and skills to design, develop and maintain a Monarch Recovery Garden. Also use our Monarch Recovery resources as you build your students learning experiences.
