Make a Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Thanksgiving centerpiece

How much better could your Thanksgiving table look --- with help from your kids and Mother Nature?

 What you need:

  • A beautiful fall day
  • Bag for collecting acorns, mini pine cones, colorful leaves, etc.
  • Clear vase or vases --- large enough to hold a pillar candle and treasures from your nature walk
  • Free-standing candle or candles depending how many you want on your table
  • Optional: Pretty rocks and small votive candles

What you do:

1. Go out for a walk with your treasure seekers (the kids!) in the park, woods, or in a field. You can find a park or trail near you using NatureFind. Look for acorns (with or without their caps), small pine cones or beautiful fall leaves.

2. Set your Thanksgiving table: place settings, silverware, glasses, napkins and salt and pepper shakers. This lets you know how much room you have for your centerpiece.

3. Decide how many vases you want. Just one can be very elegant!

4. Place the candle in the center. Then fill in the space between the candle and the vase with your acorns. If you can't find acorns, mini pine cones -- or any other fall treasures -- would work well.

5. Safety note: In the vase, do not fill the acorns as high as the candle or the acorns may touch the flame.

6. Around the base of vase, you can add colorful fall leaves, with pretty rocks to hold them in place, and several small votive candles -- to give the table a special glow.
