Roasted Chestnuts

Roasted Chestnuts

What you need:

  • Bag (for collecting the chestnuts)
  • A chestnut tree (Chestnuts can also be bought at specialty food shops)
  • Oven
  • Baking sheet
  • Knife
  • Melted chocolate (optional)

What you do:

1. If you've collected the chestnuts yourself, first remove the outer prickly husk (usually they fall out easily if they're ripe). You can also purchase the nuts, sans the prickly bits!

2. Take the nut, still in its shell, and carve a little "x" on its top so it doesn't explode from the steam in the oven.

3. Cook them for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

4. Remove from oven, break open the shells, and peel off the paper-thin husk/skin.

5. If you want to get fancy, chestnuts are terrific dipped, fondue style, into warm melted chocolate.
