Demonstrate the life cycle of a butterfly with fingers and hands
AGE RANGE: Toddlers and pre-schoolers
WHAT YOU NEED:
Pictures of butterflies (if you can find them at each stage of life)
WHAT YOU DO:
- Discuss the life cycle of the butterfly.
- Show the kids pictures of each stage of a butterfly.
- Butterfly eggs
- Caterpillar
- Chrysalis
- Adult butterfly
- Begin the finger play:

Ten little eggs |
Hold hands up, fingers straight. |
All in a mound |
Join hands together in a ball, fingers inter-locking |
Out come caterpillars, Crawling all around. |
Wiggle fingers, while still in the ball form. |
Next they will sleep And we know why. |
Lay head to one side on hands. |
Soon they'll come Out as butterfiles. |
Hold hands up, fingers straight and thumbs touching together and wave fingers. |
