Observe Bugs at Night

Summer is a great time to take a closer look at the bugs buzzing around outside. Here's an easy way to see many different kinds:

What You Need:

  • nighttime
  • white sheet
  • light source (lantern or flashlight)

What You Do:

  1. Hang the sheet from a clothesline, tree or other tall object.
  2. When night falls, position the light so it shines directly on the sheet.
  3. Watch as insects cover the sheet. How many different kinds can you find?
