Educators
Today's children are the first generation to grow up plugged into electronic media and isolated from nature.
To inspire the next generation of environmental stewards we need to reconnect children to the outdoors, and help them to learn about nature, wildlife, science and what they can do to make a difference in their world.
According to studies, children’s academic performance in science, math, English and social sciences, as well as their sense of ownership and responsibility to their surroundings, increase when they have hands-on experiences with nature and the outdoors.
National Wildlife Federation offers programs such as Reading with Ranger Rick, Schoolyard Habitats®, Ranger Rick's Geocache Trails, and Trees for the 21st Century that are designed to actively engage students, parents, educators and community members in experiences with the natural world through activities that encourage creativity, caring and stewardship.
To supplement these programs, National Wildlife Federation provides additional tools that can extend the learning experience beyond the school or classroom. Wildlife Watch and Nature Find are online tools that provide opportunities to discover wildlife and wild places in your community.
