Sustainable Business Curricula Symposium

Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI), the home of the premier MBA in Sustainable Business, is offering a three-day workshop for accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, marketing and strategy faculty to learn about and employ specific strategies to incorporate the latest trends and research in sustainable business into existing curricula. The workshop will also explore topics that might generate new course offerings. Faculty will meet en mass to better understand the business case for sustainability and discuss current sustainability frameworks. Small discipline-specific break-out sessions will allow participants to dig deeper into their discipline, explore available resources, and work with others to incorporate sustainability issues into their courses. Participants will leave with a course outline in their area of specialty, an identified support network, and resources and strategies to move forward. All registrants will receive a course syllabus and have an opportunity to comment on their specific needs/desires in advance.

Clinton Global Initiative University Meeting

The third annual CGI U meeting will bring together students, university presidents, and national youth organizations to create and implement Commitments to Action across five Global Challenge Areas : Education, Environment & Climate Change, Peace & Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, and Public Health.

Whether discussing the education of marginalized populations or the worldwide struggle against infectious diseases, each session is informed by university leaders, student activists, heads of leading NGOs, topic experts, and others who have created positive change in the global community. Participants are also invited to participate in CGI U Exchange, an exhibition allowing meeting attendees to learn more about the commitments and organizations present at the CGI U Meeting. On Sunday, CGI U members will take part in an innovative service project which will allow students to give back to the greater Miami community.

Farm to Cafeteria Conference

The Fifth National FTC Conference will include sessions on experiential education including field trips, cooking classes, school gardens, college farms, and curriculum development; farm to cafeteria as economic development; research and evaluation; grant writing and funding for farm to cafeteria; farm to cafeteria — a social justice agenda; and distribution, processing, and infrastructure development. The deadline for proposals is January 15, 2010.

Understanding Sustainability through the Humanities

Campus Sustainability Day

The eighth Campus Sustainability Day will be celebrated on hundreds of college and university campuses. The general theme for the day is likely to be a mash-up of "How do you know your campus is sustainable?" and "If you don't measure it, you can't manage it." The supporting webcast produced by the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) will likely feature some of what has been learned by campuses engaging with AASHE's Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment & System (STARS).
