In Virginia, Greenforce is focusing on the Northern, Shenandoah and Chesapeake regions; working closely with the Virginia Community College System, the Virginia Employment Commission, and the Shenandoah Valley Workforce Investment Board. Three community colleges in this region are part of the Shenandoah Valley Energy Partnership, a partnership funded in part by the U.S. Department of Labor to develop a program to train workers for jobs in the region's emerging "green" technology manufacturing and renewable energy industries.

    FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES 

  • Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund - the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund supports environmental education and restoration projects for the Chesapake Bay and its tributaries; the Fund is supported through the purchase of Chesapeake Bay commorative VA license plates.
  • Foundation for Virginia's Natural Resources - Seeks to fund projects and programs that strengthen "environmental education, pollution prevention, and citizen monitoring" and foster collaboration among businesses, citizens, communities, local governments and state agencies.
  • Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation - grant programs for land and water conservation & recreational trails
  • Virginia Environmental Endowment - VEE improves the quality of the environment by using its capital to encourage all sectors to work together to prevent pollution, conserve natural resources, and promote environmental literacy.
