Consumption and Waste Pathway Objectives and Learning Outcomes

Objectives:

  • To show that consumption and waste are environmental issues.
  • To examine consumption and waste practices in a holistic way.
  • To involve all members of the school community in examining consumption practices, reducing waste, and preventing litter.
  • To realize financial as well as environmental benefits from waste reduction initiatives.
  • To work with the local community to raise awareness about sustainable consumption and to facilitate waste reduction.


Learning Outcomes

Through work with the Consumption and Waste pathway, students will:

  • Be able to identify a range of materials and their sources.
  • Understand the decomposition process for various materials.
  • Identify the impacts of people's consumption and waste on places and environments.
  • Use sampling methods to estimate quantities of waste.
  • Collect, interpret and present information.
  • Communicate about strategies to reduce consumption and waste to a variety of audiences, including other students, parents and the local community.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
