Birdseed Cakes

Make a delicious treat for our feathered friends!

Bird Cakes

What you need:

  • 5 tablespoons shortening or lard
  • 1 cup birdseed
  • bread crumbs (about a half a piece of sandwich bread)
  • handful of peanuts
     


What you do:

  1. Mix birdseed, breadcrumbs, and peanuts together in a plastic container.  
  2. Add shortening to mixture using a plastic spoon, mix well.  
  3. Spoon out mixture into small bowls. Refrigerate for an hour or more. If you have some leftovers make birdseed balls by taking small amounts of the mixture and rolling them in your hand. 
  4. When they are set, pop the cakes out and place outside on a plate or on a bird platform. Now the birds can enjoy a wonderful treat.
