Autumn Applesauce

This classic recipe for homemade applesauce will make your kitchen smell like fall!

What you need:

  • 5–6 apples
  • 3/4 cup water
  • cinnamon
  • sugar

What you do:

  1. Wash and peel apples. Remove the core and cut the apples into small pieces about the size of an ice cube.
  2. Put the apple pieces and water in medium saucepan. Cover and simmer apples over medium heat until tender (about 20 - 30 minutes). Stir about every 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let the apples cool for a little while.
  3. For extra-smooth applesauce, let your child mash the apples with a potato masher. Then he/she can help stir in cinnamon and sugar to taste. (For every teaspoon of cinnamon about 1 tablespoon of sugar is needed.)
  4. Enjoy your applesauce on top of apple pancakes, or by itself.
