Beaver Bark

You don't need wood-chipping incisors to chew on this bark, but having a sweet tooth helps!

Beaver bark

What you need:

  • cooking spray
  • 6 graham crackers (cinnamon or plain)
  • 7 tablespoons butter or low-fat margarine
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup chopped pecans or almonds (optional)

What you do:

  1. Preheat oven to 350º.
  2. Spray a shallow baking pan with cooking spray. Lay the graham crackers close together in a single layer on the pan.
  3. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat and add the sugar, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil. Then cook for two more minutes, continuing to stir. The mixture will become frothy and thicken.
  4. Pour the mixture over the graham crackers and spread it evenly.
  5. Sprinkle the nuts on top.
  6. Bake for eight minutes.
  7. Allow to cool and use a spatula to remove the crackers from the pan. Break the crackers into bite-size pieces for your eager little beaver.

Makes about 12 servings.
