Big Backyard® is National Wildlife Federation's nature magazine for children ages 4 to 7 years.
Its mission is to introduce wildlife in entertaining and educationally sound ways that encourage young children to care for the natural world as they grow up. Feature articles contain large, captivating photographs and informative captions that help children to discover where different plants and animals live and how they survive in their habitats. Crafts, games, and puzzles actively involve children while reinforcing the information covered in the articles. Wildlife poetry and fiction add to the fun.
Big Backyard is designed to be read to children. However, its large, friendly type and step-by-step photos and artwork often prompt children to begin to read the magazine on their own.
