Draw Chart

Draw the following chart on a piece of paper.


Flap Arms

Flap your arms as fast as possible while you count for 2 seconds. Record the result in the chart.

Discuss Your Results

Help your child to compare his or her "wing speed" with the speeds of two real birds by asking:

  • Look at the numbers in the chart. Who can flap the most times while I count to 2?
  • Who is the fastest flapper on the chart?
  • Who flaps the least amount of times?
  • Who is the slowest flapper?

Tell your child that hummingbirds flap their wings so fast that it's hard to see their wings.
