Awesome Animal Shelter

Best Friends is an animal sanctuary near Kanab, Utah--and one of the largest animal shelters in the country. Check out these fun facts about Best Friends:

Dog
  1. How many creatures? At any one time, Best Friends houses about 1,700 animals--mostly unwanted or abandoned pets.
  2. What kinds of pets? Among them are dogs, cats, parrots, rabbits, pigs, goats, and horses.
  3. What about wildlife? Injured wild animals are nursed back to health here, too, and then set free, when possible.
  4. What happens to the pets? The staff at Best Friends works hard to solve any health or behavior problems among its homeless pets. Best Friends then places many of its animals with new owners.
  5. What happens if an animal doesn’t get adopted? It can still live out its days comfortably at the sanctuary.
  6. Can I visit? You and your family can visit Best Friends and take a free tour to meet some of the animals up close.
  7. Can I volunteer here? If you’re at least five years old and have a parent with you, you can volunteer to work with some of the Best Friends animals for a few hours, weeks, or months.
