Boreal Forest

The boreal, or northern, forest circles the top of the Earth like a "green halo." Many different species (kinds) of animals live in the boreal forest, especially songbirds, such as warblers, as well as wolves, woodland caribou, and other creatures.

Boreal Forest-Ranger Rick-Kids Zone

An area of boreal forest almost as big as Connecticut is cut down EVERY YEAR to make wood and paper products. The United States uses more of this wood and paper than any other nation.

You can help save the boreal forest! One way is to buy products made from recycled paper. Another is to cut down on the number of catalogs that come to your house. Go to catalog choice for more information.

The National Wildlife Federation and other groups are joining together to try and save the boreal forest. To find out more, check out borealbirds.org .

Saving the Canadian boreal forest is the theme of this year's International Migratory Bird Day. Check it out at birdday.org
