Eat Your Phil
Here is a tasty treat you can make in honor of this month's favorite animal star!
Who is Phil?
He's a groundhog in Pennsylvania and the star of a legend that has to do with Groundhog Day, which is February 2.
- Supposedly if the groundhog, named Punxsutawney (PUNKS-uh-TAWN-ee) Phil, comes out of his winter den on February 2 and sees his shadow, then winter will last six more weeks.
- And if he doesn't see his shadow? An early spring is on its way.
The truth is, Punxsutawney Phil can't really predict when spring weather will come. But this recipe is a perfect way to celebrate Groundhog Day, anyway.
What You Need:
- bagel
- Cocoa Puffs® Milk 'n Cereal Bar
- cream cheese
- chocolate "puff" cereal for cheeks and "burrow dirt"
- half a mini-marshmallow for tooth
- "O"-shaped cereal for eyes
- mini chocolate chips for eye pupils
- dried papaya or other fruit, cut into triangle shape for nose
- raisins, flattened for ears
- knife for spreading cream cheese
What You Do:
- Press in the top corners of the cereal bar to round it slightly into a head shape as shown.
- Lay the cereal bar down on a table and, using cream cheese as "glue," attach the face parts.
- Spread cream cheese on the bagel and sprinkle a few crumbled-up chocolate "puff" cereal bits on top for "burrow dirt."
- Place the decorated groundhog into the bagel hole.
Now share your treat with friends or family. Happy Groundhog Day!
