What You Need:

  • Pancakes
  • Assortment of cut-up fruit (such as strawberries, grapes, bananas, blueberries, apples, oranges, and coconut)
  • Maple syrup (if you want)

What You Do:

  1. Make your favorite pancakes, or use the recipe at right.
  2. Arrange the pieces of fruit on your cooked pancakes to create a cat's face. You can copy the designs shown here or use your imagination to make any face you like.
  3. For an even tastier treat, "glue" your fruit on with dabs of maple syrup.

Pancake Recipe:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (plus extra for the griddle)

Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. (It's OK if your batter is a little lumpy.) For each pancake, drop about 1/4 cup of the batter onto a lightly oiled griddle on medium heat. (Ask an adult for help.) Cook until the pancake bubbles on the top and browns on the bottom. Flip and cook until golden brown on the other side.
