Maple Yum

 Snow covered red barn

Here's how you can make a sweet, winter-time, or anytime, treat, using maple syrup. It's called "sugar on snow."

  1. Pack some clean, fresh snow in a bowl. Keep it in the freezer until ready to use. (No snow? Try vanilla ice cream.)
  2. With an adult's help, boil a cup or two of maple syrup for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally. (If you have a candy thermometer, boil to about 235° F.)
  3. With help, drizzle the hot syrup lightly over the snow. It will quickly cool and harden.
  4. Peel off the taffy-like candy and twirl it around a fork or chopstick—and enjoy!
