Incredible illustrations add to this wonderful, fact-based story. Beautifully written, the book tells about a momentous event in New York history, the completion of the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883. The bridge was a marvel of modern technology with its steel cables and high towers. But because it was so new-fangled, people weren't sure it was truly safe. "How much weight could it really hold?" they wondered. Amid all this questioning, up stepped the showman P.T. Barnum, the founder of the circus. Barnum announced he would lead a procession of 21 of his circus elephants across the bridge just to give the world its answer. Did they make it? You'll have to read the book to find out!
