Who Goes There?

Kids aren’t the only ones leaving footprints in the winter woods. Many animals are out and about in the cold and snow. Each one leaves behind its own set of tracks.

If you study these tracks, you can figure out which animals passed by and where they were going. Head out to a forest, a field, a riverbank, or your own backyard to look for clues. Snow is great for tracking, but mud or sand works well, too.

Can you identify all of the tracks in the illustration above?

  • Dog
  • Crow
  • Squirrel
  • Deer
  • Snowshoe hare
  • Cat
  • Human Raccoon
