Parrot Pair Ups

In Germany, there's a woman, named Rita Ohnhaeuser, who pairs up lonely parrots. It's a good thing to do, because there are plenty of lonely pet parrots in Germany—and elsewhere, too.

The truth is, parrots are excellent animals but don't make excellent pets. Many wild parrots are endangered. Why? Their tropical homes are disappearing to make way for towns, farms, and roads. And too many of them are captured for the pet trade.

Other pet parrots are raised in captivity, which doesn't harm the wild birds. But even these birds can lead lonely lives. And they take much more work, time, space, and money than you might think.

The best way to help parrots is to leave them in the wild and to protect their wild homes.
