Wolverines

wolverine

You read all about Woody and Willis Wolverine in the May 2004 issue of Wild Animal Baby. Now, learn more amazing facts about these close relatives of skunks!

  • Wolverine babies are born with white fur.
  • Baby wolverines are called kits.
  • Usually, 2 kits are born in a litter. Sometimes there are 3 or 4.
  • Kits stay with their moms until they are 2 years old.
  • Some people call the wolverine "skunk bear". That's because wolverines look like small bears and have stripes on their backs like skunks. They also have a scent gland that makes a smelly musk.
  • Wolverines have strong noses. They can smell food that is buried deep under snow. They use their sharp claws to dig it out.
  • To keep other animals away from their food, wolverines spray it with a smelly musk.
