"Nature in My Neighborhood" Photo Challenge
In February, National Wildlife announced its first-ever photo challenge, “Nature in My Neighborhood.” The editors invited members of the magazine’s photo group to enter images from their backyard or community showing wildlife, plants or people enjoying the outdoors. More than 1,400 photos were uploaded for consideration.
In March, the editors selected six finalists (below) and asked group members and others to vote for their favorite. More than 14,000 people weighed in. The top vote-getter was Robert Strickland’s image of a barred owl amid Spanish moss, taken at a lake near his home in Beverly Hills, Florida.
