Our commitment to the preservation of wildlife habitat has been the basis of a long standing partnership with NWF. B.B. Brown’s Gardens, in Clermont, Florida, provides native plants and habitat design services for gardens throughout Florida, making the NWF Habitat Stewards program a perfect match. As Habitat Stewards Hosts, we have been offering two trainings a year for the past 8 years and have made many friends who continue the efforts to make their communities wildlife friendly and beautiful.
In 2006, we received the prestigious “Regional Volunteers of the Year” award at the NWF annual meeting in New Orleans. We were humbled and honored to receive our award , especially with Vice President Al Gore in attendance. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, it was inspiring that NWF gave us the opportunity to contribute to the restoration efforts in New Orleans’ parks and bayous.
Today, evidence of the good work by the Habitat Stewards is all across central Florida. Backyards, public places, hospitals, post office, lake fronts, parks and schools proudly display the “Certified Habitat” sign for all to see.
As we continue to work with those of you who are inspired to protect our environment, we look forward to our many adventures together in years to come.
