Christopher Pulaski, RLA is the National Wildlife Federation's Louisiana Coastal Organizer for the Barataria/Terrebonne area. Chris is working to raise awareness of risk-management actions that are being taken to ensure the storm-resiliency, prosperity, and sustainability of coastal communities. He received a BS in Landscape Architecture from LSU and is a licensed Landscape Architect.

Christopher grew up in Houma, and has recently returned to participate in the ongoing efforts for coastal restoration in South Louisiana.

National Wildlife Federation, Environmental Defense Fund, and National Audubon Society, along with other national and state partners, are advocating for a bold approach to restoring the wetlands and coastal areas that protect Louisiana’s people and wildlife. The man-made collapse of coastal Louisiana’s Mississippi River delta wetlands system – and the people, culture, birds, fish, and economic activities that depend upon it – is one of the most important and complex environmental issues facing America today.

The fight to restore coastal Louisiana will succeed only by reconnecting the river to its floodplain, thus restoring the natural function and resiliency of North America’s largest river delta. The land-building capacity of the Mississippi River is also our most powerful tool against the effects of global warming and sea level rise.

Christopher’s focus is on coastal restoration projects that use the water and sediment in the Mississippi River to build land, such as the Myrtle Grove Sediment Diversion into the Barataria Basin, and other projects authorized by Congress and the state, such as mechanical placement of river sediment to rebuild ridges and lost marsh. Christopher works to raise awareness of risk management actions that can and are being taken to ensure that communities are storm-resilient and thrive in a restored and sustainable coastal area.

Chris, like all of the Louisiana staff, has been involved in several aspects pertaining to the BP Oil Spill Disaster. He is helping to coordinate volunteer involvement efforts for the National Wildlife Federation’s Gulf Coast Wildlife Surveillance Teams, as well as conducting outreach efforts to local impacted areas and communities.
