Senior Editor, Ranger Rick Magazine
Headquarters - Reston, VA

As a senior editor on Ranger Rick, I regularly write feature-length articles, along with the two-page nature-news column called “The Buzz.” I also edit the “Ask Rick” column, which consists of questions our readers send us and our responses to these.

Like all of us editors on staff here, I sometimes edit articles by outside writers. And, since we edit by committee, so to speak, I spend lots of time reading over and commenting on what my in-house colleagues have written.

I am the Ranger Rick point person on Twitter and often update Ranger Rick’s Facebook page. I also blog from time to time on various NWF sites.

Having grown up a bit of a tom boy, always outside, often exploring the woods and fields near my home in Massachusetts, I feel I have the perfect job! I love writing about nature. My favorite thing is getting personal with the animals I’m writing about. That doesn’t happen too often. NWF doesn’t have the budget to fly me to the rain forests of South America or the wilds of Africa or Asia. But I sometimes get to spend time with more accessible animals, such as a great day interviewing the elephant keeper at the National Zoo and meeting her “charges.”

You can follow me on Twitter @epschleichert and you can become one of Rick’s fans on Facebook, too. (He goes by, duh, Ranger Rick!)
