John Hammond

Regional Executive Director
Southeast Regional Center

John Hammond is the Regional Executive Director of the National Wildlife Federation’s Southeast Regional Center.

Since joining NWF in April of 2010, John has been focused on developing an extended vision for the work currently being done in the Southeast. John bring with him experience gained from serving in leadership positions at both profit and not-for-profit enterprises. His work with various stakeholder groups has allowed him to develop a perspective on policy and practice development that NWF will leverage locally, and nationally.

It is the role of regional offices, working closely with our affiliate state and territory organizations, to locally articulate the national priorities of NWF – so, each office’s approach is grounded in the realities and relevancies of the communities they serve. The three strategic priorities for NWF are: confronting global warming, protecting wildlife and their habitats and reconnecting families with nature. In the Southeast, our team has established strong programs aligned with all three of NWF’s strategic priorities; our focus going forward, is to expand the depth and breadth of our programs and advocacy initiatives.

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and having worked and lived in Georgia and Florida, John has spent nearly thirty-two years enjoying the highways, byways, and waterways of the south and southeast. His interest in protecting wildlife and reconnecting families with nature is rooted in his formative years spent with his father and uncles fishing and walking in the “country.” Today, with so many of our youth living almost entirely in urban settings, it is imperative that we are creative in how we re-integrate youth and families into nature settings where imagination is nurtured and perspective on life is gained.

John earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA from Goizueta Business School at Emory University, and has completed all but dissertation for the PhD from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.
