Land Tawney
Senior Manager for Sportsmen Leadership
Northern Rockies and Prairies Regional Center

Land received a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Montana in 2000. Fresh out of school, he worked for a newly formed sportsmen organization called the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) as their National Grassroots Coordinator.

After four years working for TRCP, Land joined the staff of the National Wildlife Federation's (NWF) NRPRC as Regional Representative. He worked with the state affiliates in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota helping them with capacity building, leadership development, and grassroots mobilization at a state and national level.

Today Land continues his work with the Montana affiliate, as well as his role as Senior Manager of Sportsmen United for Sensible Mining, a joint campaign between NWF, TRCP and Trout Unlimited to bring reform to the 1872 Mining Law.

In 2007, Land organized the first ever Montana Legislative Sportsmen Caucus, a bi-partisan entity formed to uphold Montana's hunting and fishing heritage. This work continues in the 2009 legislative session. In his spare time, Land sits on the board of the Phil Tawney Hunters Conservation Endowment, which gives out grants and scholarships to promote conservation and the sportsmen ethic in Montana. In addition he is a founding board member of Hellgate Hunters and Anglers and the Chairman of the Governor appointed Private Land Public Wildlife Council.

Any other spare time is spent with his two children and wife on the stream, in the duck blind, or chasing big game.
