I am a Regional Representative for the National Wildlife Federation. I also work with the outdoor writer's community educating hunters and anglers on the rapid loss of Louisiana wetlands. As a regional representative I advise and consult three different board's of directors in their respective states: The Wyoming Wildlife Federation, Nevada Wildlife Federation and Nebraska Wildlife Federation. All of these groups are independent conservation organizations representing about 15,000 conservation-minded hunters and anglers.
My role is to advise on leadership cultivation, capacity building and programatic work (policy advice on regional and national issues - where these groups should weigh in politically in their region to effect results.
My job could be described as a “political bartender,” as I build relationships in those states I represent, as well as within the hunting and fishing industry nationwide to further NWF's goals.
For example, my work in Louisiana has had great outcomes through partnerships with RealTree camo, Bassmasters, Top Brass and others. In some cases these groups have offered to collaborate with NWF by putting our conservation message in print ads in that region to increase conservation outcomes directly affecting hunters and anglers.
At the end of the day my job is about ensuring the long-term effectiveness of NWF and its affiliates by building strong organizations, developing and supporting effective leadership, and creating strong networks of influential people to achieve national and regional conservation victories.
