When I was a child, I spent most of my summers on my grandmother’s 99-acre farm in northeast Ohio. Every morning my brother and I would head outside—and we wouldn’t go back in the house until we were called for dinner. We spent our days picking blackberries in the lane, climbing trees in the orchard, fishing in the pond, walking the cornfield, and exploring the woods. We had the run of the place, and every day was full of new discoveries.
Unfortunately, not many children today are lucky enough to have so much time and space to discover the wonders of the natural world firsthand. That’s why my staff and I are committed to making sure Ranger Rick Jr. is full of fascinating facts about animals and the worlds they live in. We want our readers to feel like they’ve discovered something new on every page. And we hope that they will be so inspired by what they find in the magazine that they’ll go outside and discover for themselves how much fun being outdoors can be.
