Vice President, Strategic Alliances & Special Events
Headquarters - Reston, VA
Meri-Margaret Deoudes leads the Corporate Relations, Special Events and Be Out There initiative at National Wildlife Federation (NWF) in Reston, Virginia. She joined NWF in 2009 to support NWF’s Be Out There movement to connect children with nature, promote the holistic health benefits of outdoor play and grow the next generation of environmental stewards.
Through strategic alliances with key corporate partners and special events/activities aimed to trade screen time for green time, Meri-Margaret is making outdoor play a priority in today’s society. She continues to develop and execute new revenue opportunities from corporations and individuals by enhancing the Great American Backyard Campout (GABC), creating NWF’s new Hike & Seek event and Ranger Rick’s Geocache Trails program (RRGT). Now in its 9th year, GABC is a signature annual fundraising event held in June. In its 4th year, Hike & Seek has expanded to eleven major metropolitan markets across the U.S., making it easy for families to spend time together hiking and exploring the outdoors and nature. RRGT has expanded into 24 states since the program launched in May 2011.
Prior to joining NWF, Meri-Margaret was part of the national campaign team at Leukemia & Lymphoma Society developing corporate partnerships and consulting with chapter staff on special events. She started her career working in the D.C. market at March of Dimes and National Kidney Foundation
Over the last 19 years, Meri-Margaret has trained staff on sales strategies, volunteer and board development and event support. She has served as a round table host at the Good & Green marketing conference, a panelist at the Partners Outdoors and presenter at the Run, Walk, Ride Fundraising Council and Sustainable Brands conferences. She serves as a “spokesmom” for the Be Out There movement appearing in print, radio, TV and corporate partner communications.
She lives in Maryland with her husband and son, is an avid runner, reader and sports fan. She enjoys cooking, baking, entertaining, gardening, and creating outdoor adventures for her kindergarten son, John Robert.
