Peter Marx is the Senior Policy Advisor for the Choose Clean Water coalition. Peter comes to the coalition on a special assignment (IPA) from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He had been at EPA's Chesapeake Bay Program Office since 1993, as Associate Director for Communications, responsible for communications, media relations, outreach and public information for the Bay Program, as well as Congressional coordination, the budget and the administrative functions of the office.
From 2003 through the summer of 2007, Peter was on assignment to a regional non-profit group in Washington, D.C. – the Northeast-Midwest Institute. Peter provided technical support to a number of Congressional Task Forces working on regional ecosystem issues, including the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
Prior to coming to the Bay Program, Peter worked in the Congressional Affairs Office at EPA Headquarters for two years. He was responsible for coastal water issues and related legislation, such as the Clean Water Act reauthorization and Water Resources Development Act reauthorization. Prior to his arrival at EPA, Mr. Marx was a staff member on the Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 1991. He helped to author the Ocean Dumping Ban Act of 1988, and other coastal legislation.
Peter earned a M.A. degree in Geography and Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island.
