NWF's Northeast Forest Climate Manager
Northeast Regional Center - Montpelier, Vermont

Stacy Brown is the Northeast Forest Climate Manager at National Wildlife Federation.  Her work revolves around state, regional and federal policies and practices supporting forested landscapes and sustainable forest management practices, and the creation of incentives for managing forestlands that recognize their value for carbon sequestration and wildlife habitat among other uses.  Several of her projects involve the convergence of deforestation activities, corporate procurement decisions on wood products and knowledge of their supply chains, and buyers support for sustainable forest products.

Stacy has managed NWF’s Garden Furniture Scorecard helping conservation-interested buyers of garden furniture find the major retailers that offer FSC-certified outdoor furniture and demonstrating the value of offering these product choices to retailers.  She has worked on the Forest Footprint Disclosure project aimed at raising awareness within 90 of the largest U.S. companies of their company’s forest footprint and direct or indirect influence on deforestation, and helping companies to minimize their risk associated with deforestation.  Stacy was the lead author of NWF’s The Possibility of Plantations: Integrating Ecological Forestry into Plantation Systems.  She has also worked with small forest landowner groups to help them organize to most efficiently access the FSC certification system, and was engaged in FSC workgroups that ensured that certification policies reflect small landowner needs.

Stacy has a B.A. from Dartmouth College and Masters’ degrees from Yale University’s School of Management and School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
