One of the country’s oddest looking creatures, the star-nosed mole, has earned another distinction. Vanderbilt University biologists recently discovered that the marsh-dwelling mammal can detect and consume insect prey in as few as 120 milliseconds—a speed too quick to be followed by the human eye and much faster than most other predators, which typically take between seconds and minutes to complete the job.
