Holidays on Ice

Eric C. Lefranc came across this mother polar bear and cub stranded on an iceberg in Olga Strait, 12 miles from the nearest land in Norway’s Svalbard Islands.  Adult polar bears are good swimmers but cubs cannot swim for long periods.  The pair may be waiting for another iceberg closer to land before attempting another swim.  A resident of Paris, France, Lefranc photographed the animals with a Nikon D200 and an 80-400mm lens.
