TO CLOSE OUT 2010, WE PRESENT AN IMAGE by pro photographer Norbert Wu of emperor penguins shooting through clear water at the edge of an ice sheet in McMurdo Sound, Antarctica. Wu writes, “Emperor penguins are the champions of diving birds. They are able to hold their breath for 22 minutes and dive to depths of 1,760 feet as they forage for fish and squid.” Wu used a Nikonos V amphibious camera and a 15mm lens.
