Chris Heisey made this image of a zebra swallowtail butterfly in Malvern Hill, Virginia, scene of a Civil War battle in 1862. “Arguably the most handsome of all American butterflies,” the Pennsylvania photographer writes, “these creatures feed upon milkweed and bushes that are in ample supply here.” Heisey used a Nikon D3, a 150mm lens and flash.
