In spring, prothonotary warblers seem to be everywhere along the boardwalk at the Audubon Center in Francis Beidler Forest, South Carolina. The males spend their days defending their territories. Jim Burns came across this male using the boardwalk railing to advertise his territory. “A shaft of sunlight hit just right to preclude the necessity of using a flash for the image,” the Arizona photographer writes. Burns used a Canon EOS ID Mark III, a 600mm lens and a tripod.
