A FEW YEARS AGO, PRO PHOTOGRAPHER DENNIS FAST SPENT SEVERAL WEEKS at the headwaters of the Thelon River in the Northwest Territories of Canada. One night, the northern lights put on a breathtaking show. The Manitoba resident writes, “In spite of a full moon, the aurora was so bright that it maintained its intensity.” This image shows his companion admiring the sight. He finally stopped shooting at 3 A.M. with the aurora still displaying overhead. Fast used a Nikon D1X, a 17-35mm lens and, of course, a tripod.
