"Montrose Harbor in Chicago was alive with birds on a foggy spring morning," says Patrick Connolly. The Illinois resident soon noticed this exquisite male scarlet tanager. “The bird seemed to cut through the fog with his flaming red plumage,” Connolly says. “He was quite cooperative and seemed to enjoy his rock star status as several birders and photographers took in his beauty.” Connolly used a Canon 50D and a 500mm lens.
