Photo of the Week: Elk Rut

Tule elk males battle every autumn in Point Reyes National Seashore, California. “We watched both of these bulls get run out of a harem by a clearly larger male earlier in the day,” says photographer Pat Ulrich, “and then after feeding peacefully together on the edges of the group they eventually came to blows. There was no clear winner and it ended as quickly as it started.” The California resident used a Nikon D90 and a 200-500mm lens with tripod.
