Hawfinches

Hawfinches are widely distributed birds that feed primarily on hard fruit and tree seeds. Photographer Hermann Brehm maintains a bird-feeding table in winter, where “very often hawfinches come to visit, and there is always some fight between them.” Despite their aggression—toward birds both of their own and other species—hawfinches tend to eat in groups, especially in winter. A resident of Germany, Brehm used a Canon camera.
