Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park, Utah, is a famous natural rock formation. Located in the northernmost area of the park, the arch is located on the edge of the plateau, overlooking the expansive countryside. It’s a popular destination for photographers to capture the sun rising beneath the arch, but Texas resident Jerry Cotton wanted something different. He wrote, “I waited to photograph the sun’s rays just as the sun edged over the top of the arch, while the bottom still glowed red and orange.” The sun flare adds a final touch. Cotton used a Canon Rebel XSi camera and a 10-24mm lens, taking five quick shots and combining them as an HDR (High Dynamic Range) image for maximum detail.
