Photo of the Week: Pondering His Future

09-30-2013 // NWF Staff

Black Crested Macaque

Considered critically endangered by IUCN, the black-crested macaque inhabits the northeast region of Indonesia’s Sulawesi as well as smaller, neighboring islands. The species’ population has dropped by more than 80 percent due to habitat loss and hunting. Photographer Sean Crane writes of photographing this individual: “He seems to be pondering his future in an increasingly shrinking habitat.” The New York resident used a Nikon D300 with a 200-400mm lens.
