Photo of the Week: The Macaroni Penguin
The arrival of December marks the beginning of breeding season for several penguin colonies.
While on a cruise through the islands of the Antarctic, photographer Emerson Tan writes of his group coming across “Elvis, the world’s loneliest Macaroni Penguin.” Biologist studying his host colony of chinstrap penguins on Anvers Island, located off the Antarctic Peninsula, have noticed him coming back every year for over a decade instead of returning to a Macaroni Penguin colonies established further north. The London, England resident took this photo using a Canon EOS 650D with a 100-400mm lens.
