Great Horned Owl

The Fresno (California) Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Service is an all-volunteer organization that cares for orphaned or injured wild birds and mammals native to California, returning them to their natural habitats whenever possible. The organization uses educational presentations to increase awareness, concern and understanding of California’s wildlife resources. Photographer David Hunter, working with the rescue group to take birds-of-prey portraits, captured this image of a resident great horned owl that had suffered neurological damage and that remains in the service’s care. The California resident used a Nikon D800 with an 80-200mm lens.
