Photo of the Week: Ant Parade

Texas Leafcutter Ants

Independence Day is this week, and it is a great time for family outings, outdoor games, walks in the woods, swimming and generally kicking back with some old-fashioned outdoor fun. With parades during the day and fireworks at night, this holiday provides plenty of opportunities to get outside. Youth Photographer Patrick Carney took this image of a Texas leafcutter ant, writing that it “had such a huge piece that the ant looked like it was carrying a flag in a parade.” The New Jersey resident used a Canon EOS Rebel T1i and a 100mm lens.
